Tips For Being Body Confident As You Age

Posted on: 9 May 2017

As you age, you might feel less attractive. This can be very distressing for many people because they might place a high value on how they look and take a lot of time to improve their looks as much as possible. Because it is impossible to avoid aging, the level of distress that people feel might seem insurmountable. This can have a very negative effect on these people's lives. Here are some tips for being more body confident as you age so that you can live a fulfilling life and not be wrapped up in your looks.

1. Solve the Problem

If you have a small part of your body that you are unsatisfied with, consider just getting it fixed. If you don't like the way your nose looks, save up for a procedure to improve it. If you are really stressed out about the wrinkles in your forehead, consider building a Botox fund into your budget so that you can actually have the procedure kept up. This is good option for people who will be satisfied with one or two areas of their body being fixed, rather than feeling as though they need to fix everything, which is logistically and financially impossible for most. Talk to your doctor to make sure that you do not have body dysmorphia before you get any procedure done. If you do not have this problem, then simply getting a nose job or Botox can really go a long way towards helping you feel much more body confident.

2. Tell Yourself a Story About Your Appearance

Try to see your body as a narrative. You might have wrinkles around your eyes because you laughed a lot throughout your life. You might have stretch marks on your stomach because you carried your child. You might have cellulite on your thighs because your mother had cellulite, and her mother before her. Your cellulite might be your connection with previous generations. By telling yourself positive stories about your appearance, you can see "defects" in how you look as simply quirks, rather than the enemy.

3. Get Clothes That Fit

Invest in clothing that fits. If you can't find anything in your size, shop online or have your clothes tailored so that they fit appropriately. This will help you feel a lot more confident on a day-to-day basis.
