Dry, Painful Feet? Soothe Them With These Easy Tips

When your feet become dry and painful, walking, running, and even standing can be tough. The skin on your feet is thicker and much more detailed than the skin on your arms, legs, and other body areas. Regular body oils and lotions might not work well for the unique skin on your feet. 

The skin on your feet may also take a beating if you wear tight footwear or socks. The socks' material may chafe and irritate the skin on your feet, while tight shoes may reduce the circulation in your feet. Poor circulation may potentially lead to dry skin. Here are easy tips you can try to ease your dry, painful feet.

Massage Your Feet With Coconut Oil

You can alleviate the soreness in your feet and circulate fresh blood to your skin with nightly massages. All you need for your foot massages is a light oil like coconut oil. The oil makes it easier to glide your fingers and palms over your skin.

Now, follow the steps below:

  1. Soak your feet in warm water for 5 minutes. 
  2. Dab your feet with a soft towel to remove some of the water from them.
  3. Place a 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil in the palm of one hand, then rub both hands together.
  4. Use light circular motions to massage the bottom of your foot from heel to toes.
  5. Repeat step four for about 10 minutes, then switch to the other foot.

Comfort and Hydrate Your Feet

Gently remove excess oil from your foot with a cotton towel. Cover your feet with thick cotton socks. Cotton doesn't scratch or irritate skin, so it's a good choice for your feet. If you don't have cotton socks, cover your feet with another natural material like silk. 

You can also improve your foot problems by hydrating your skin. You can stay hydrated with plain water or decaffeinated tea. Also, place your feet on a chair and relax for about 15 minutes or so. This tip may help alleviate stress and tension from the tissues in your feet. If it's very close to bedtime, place your feet on pillows to help you relax during the night.
